The impression of the OPC’s Flint scholarship

Kate McLeod of The Abroad Press Membership writes concerning the Jerry Flint Scholarship, named after a legendary automotive journalist, and its impression.

McLeod writes, “An entry by a Columbia Journalism College graduate pupil, Valerie Hopkins, is chosen because the 2013 Jerry Flint Scholarship winner. Along with her scholarship, Val labored for the Monetary Instances and subsequently joined The New York Instances in Could 2021. The Instances posted Hopkins in Moscow and when the warfare broke out, she was there to cowl it reporting from each Russia and Ukraine. Along with a number of Web page 1 tales, on Dec. 5, 2022, Hopkins posted a Page 1 story with co-writer Anatoly Kurmanaev citing how the warfare’s sanctions have been undercutting the Russian economic system, with a give attention to the auto trade. “Flint by no means would have believed a scholarship in his title would produce so many wonderful journalists. McLeod can simply hear him saying, ‘Who would donate cash in my title?’ We now have simply named the thirteenth winner of the scholarship. Many of the winners are in key locations world wide.

“‘It’s what it needs to be for Jerry,’ McLeod says. ‘A few of his last phrases to his readers have been, ‘I’ll attempt to by no means allow you to down.’ I believe his legacy is alive and properly. And it has come full circle with Valerie writing a narrative concerning the Russian auto trade.’”
